Privacy Policy
What Foodlarder collects when you read, subscribe, comment or get in touch, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Who we are
Foodlarder (foodlarder.com) is a food storage and pantry cooking publication run by Walid LF, an individual. In this policy, “Foodlarder”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Walid LF as the operator of this website. We are responsible for, and act as the controller of, the personal information described here.
Send any question or request about your information to info@foodlarder.com. We aim to reply within 30 days.
Information we collect
Information you give us
Newsletter. Your email address when you sign up for The Sunday Shelf.
Contact form and email. Your name, your email address and whatever you write in your message.
Comments. The name, email address and optional website you enter, your comment, and the IP address and browser details recorded with it to help prevent spam.
Information collected automatically
Server logs. Like almost every website, our hosting provider records technical details when a page is requested: IP address, browser type, the page requested, the page you came from, and the date and time. These logs are used to keep the site secure and working.
Cookies and similar technologies. Described in the cookies section below. Advertising and analytics cookies are used only while those services are active on the site, and with your consent where the law requires it.
Information we do not collect
We do not ask for payment details, government identification or sensitive information such as health data. Please do not include sensitive information in comments or messages.
How we use it, and our legal bases
We use personal information only for the purposes below. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or another place with similar law, we rely on the legal basis shown for each.
Sending the newsletter, based on your consent. You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link.
Answering your messages, based on our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
Publishing and moderating comments, based on our legitimate interest in hosting a reader discussion, and your choice to take part.
Keeping the site secure and working, including preventing spam and abuse, based on our legitimate interests.
Showing advertising and understanding how the site is used, while those services are active, based on your consent where the law requires it and otherwise on our legitimate interests.
Meeting legal obligations, such as responding to lawful requests from authorities.
Advertising
Foodlarder may show advertising to pay for the site. Ads may be served by Google AdSense or other advertising networks, such as Mediavine or Raptive, and their technology partners.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google in Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of personalised advertising from many other companies at optout.aboutads.info and, in Europe, at youronlinechoices.eu. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
While advertising is active, visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland will be asked for consent before non-essential advertising cookies are used, through a consent tool that meets Google’s requirements.
Affiliate links and sponsored content
Some posts contain affiliate links. If you buy something through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The retailer may use cookies to record that the purchase came from Foodlarder, and its own privacy policy applies once you are on its website.
Where posts contain Amazon links, Foodlarder takes part in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate, Foodlarder earns from qualifying purchases.
Sponsored posts, and posts about products we were given, are labelled at the top of the post. The Disclaimer explains this in full.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics, a service from Google, to understand which pages are read and how people find the site. It uses cookies or similar technologies to collect details such as pages visited, time on page, device type and approximate location derived from your IP address. Google Analytics does not store IP addresses. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics cookies are off by default, so Google receives only cookieless measurements that do not identify your browser. We do not use analytics data for advertising.
You can block Google Analytics in your browser with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. We group them like this:
Essential. Needed for the site to work and stay secure, such as the cookies used when an administrator signs in. These do not require consent.
Preferences. Remember choices you make, such as saving your name and email for your next comment, or your cookie choices.
Analytics. Help us understand how the site is used. Set by Google Analytics, and off by default for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
Advertising and affiliate. Used by ad networks and affiliate partners as described above. Used only while those services are active and, where required, with your consent.
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site from working.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only with service providers that help us run Foodlarder, and only as much as each one needs:
Hostinger, which hosts the website, stores its database and server logs, and provides Hostinger Reach, the service that stores the newsletter list and sends the newsletter.
Cloudflare, which sits in front of the website to deliver pages quickly and protect it from attacks and abuse. Every visit passes through Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and technical details of the request for that purpose.
Hostinger and Google, which provide the email services we use to receive and answer messages.
Gravatar, a service run by Automattic. When you comment, a string created from your email address (called a hash) may be sent to Gravatar to check whether you have a profile picture to show.
Advertising, analytics and affiliate partners, as described above, while those services are active on the site.
Authorities and others where required: to comply with the law, to protect our rights or safety or those of others, or if the website is sold or transferred, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.
The site’s fonts are served from our own server, so loading a page does not send your IP address to a font provider.
Some US state laws treat letting advertising partners use cookies for targeted advertising as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. Where that applies, you can opt out as explained under your privacy rights below.
How long we keep it
Newsletter: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. After you unsubscribe we may keep your address on a suppression list so we never email you again.
Messages: up to 24 months after our last exchange, unless we need them longer to resolve a dispute.
Comments: for as long as the comment is published. You can ask us to remove it.
Server logs: for the limited period set by our hosting provider for security purposes.
Advertising and analytics data: as set by each provider, and no longer than 14 months where we control the setting.
Where your information is processed
Foodlarder is run from the United States, and our service providers operate in several countries, including the United States and member states of the European Union. Your information may therefore be processed outside the country where you live. Where the law requires it, these transfers are protected by recognised safeguards, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Your privacy rights
Make any of the requests below by emailing info@foodlarder.com. We may need to confirm your identity first, usually by asking you to write from the email address you gave us. We will never treat you differently for using your rights.
Everyone
Ask what personal information we hold about you, and for a copy of it.
Ask us to correct it or delete it.
Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time.
European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland
You also have the right to restrict or object to how we use your information, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting what happened before. You can complain to the data protection authority where you live or work, though we would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
California and other US states
Depending on where you live, including California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas and Oregon, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to access, correct and delete it, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. Where advertising cookies count as a sale or sharing, you can opt out by emailing us or, while advertising is active, through the privacy choices link on the site. We treat Global Privacy Control browser signals as a valid opt-out where the law requires it.
You may use an authorised agent to make a request for you. If we decline a request, you can appeal by replying to our decision. If your appeal is declined, you can contact your state attorney general.
The categories of personal information we collect are identifiers such as name, email address and IP address; internet activity such as pages viewed; and the content of messages and comments you send. We do not collect sensitive personal information.
Children
Foodlarder is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under 16 in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email info@foodlarder.com and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), restricted access to the website’s administration, and reputable service providers. No method of transmitting or storing information is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a data breach affects your information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities where the law requires it.
Do Not Track
There is no agreed standard for browser Do Not Track signals, so the site does not respond to them. We do honour Global Privacy Control as described above.
Links to other websites
Posts link to other websites, including retailers and government food safety sources. Those websites have their own privacy practices, so please read their policies.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the site or the law changes, and the date at the top always shows the latest version. If a change significantly affects how we use information you have already given us, we will tell newsletter subscribers by email before it takes effect.
